Allow two full days for a first visit and add a third for a slower pace or an excursion. Chongqing is three-dimensional: steep streets, bridges, riverbanks and buildings connected at different levels can make a short map distance a much longer walk.
A practical 2-day Chongqing itinerary
Group nearby sights and leave time for viewpoints after dark rather than crossing the municipality repeatedly.
- Day 1: Jiefangbei, central lanes, Hongya Cave exterior and river views
- Day 2: Liziba area, a neighborhood walk and the opposite riverbank or a selected museum
- Day 3 option: a separately planned regional attraction or a slower food-focused day
Railway stations and airport transfers
Chongqing has multiple major railway stations, so copy the complete station name from the ticket. Chongqing North, Chongqing West and Chongqing East are not interchangeable. For flights, confirm the terminal at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport and allow extra time for vertical streets, traffic and station security.
