West Lake route planning
West Lake is a large landscape, not one viewpoint. Choose a starting shore, decide whether a boat ride is essential and finish near transport or dinner. Walking the entire perimeter is unnecessary for most first visits; a shorter causeway-and-garden route usually leaves more time to enjoy the setting.
Lingyin, tea villages and the Grand Canal
Lingyin and nearby temple landscapes need their own half-day when included. Tea-village visits work best when transport and return arrangements are clear. The Grand Canal area provides a different urban-history experience and can replace, rather than merely add to, another distant stop.
Arriving by train
Hangzhou East is the main high-speed rail hub for many Shanghai services, while other tickets may use Hangzhou West or Hangzhou South.
