Beijing 4-day itinerary at a glance
Use the first two days for Beijing's historic center, reserve one full day for the Great Wall and keep the final day for the Summer Palace or a flexible museum and neighborhood combination. This order limits cross-city travel and protects the hardest reservation—the Forbidden City—from last-minute improvisation.

Day 1: Forbidden City and the historic center
Start south of the Forbidden City and move north through the palace complex, then finish at Jingshan for the classic roofline view if time and conditions allow. The Palace Museum does not sell same-day tickets and normally closes on Mondays except statutory holidays. Reserve through its official channel, use the passport details exactly and carry the original passport used for booking.
Day 2: Temple of Heaven and old Beijing
Visit the Temple of Heaven earlier in the day, then choose one compact old-city area rather than racing between distant hutong districts. Qianmen works well with the southern historic axis; Shichahai and the Drum and Bell Towers suit an afternoon walk farther north. Check separate venue reservations before setting the exact order.
Day 3: Great Wall day trip
Treat the Great Wall as a full-day excursion. Mutianyu is a common first-visit choice for restored scenery and tourist facilities; Badaling has direct transport options and is also heavily visited. Compare the wall entrance, shuttle, cable car or chairlift, return transport and cancellation terms as separate items before paying.
Day 4: Summer Palace and departure buffer
The Summer Palace is west of central Beijing and deserves several hours. Enter through a gate that matches your planned route instead of assuming every entrance produces the same walk. Keep the evening flexible for weather, shopping or an early departure; do not place a timed airport or railway transfer immediately after a large attraction.
