Where to Stay in Shenzhen for a First Visit

Compare Futian, Nanshan, Shekou and border areas for transport and sightseeing.

Reviewed August 20263 min readHow we review

Futian is the strongest all-round base; Nanshan and Shekou suit design, technology and waterfront interests. Choose a border-area hotel only for a specific Hong Kong crossing.

Futian

Best for a first trip, with high-speed rail, metro connections and central landmarks. Check whether the property is near Futian station or merely somewhere in the large district.

Nanshan and Shekou

Nanshan suits technology and creative districts; Shekou offers a slower waterfront feel. Travel to Futian remains manageable but eastern excursions become longer.

Luohu and border hotels

Luohu can be useful for its railway station and Hong Kong crossing. Border operating rules and onward transport vary, so never select the area without confirming the exact checkpoint.
